Nußdorf ob der Traisen is a market town with 1786 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Sankt Pölten-Land district in Lower Austria .
geography
Nussdorf ob der Traisen is located in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria . The area of the market town covers 15.43 square kilometers. 28.68 percent of the area is forested.

The community consists of the cadastral communities Franzhausen, Neusiedl, Nussdorf ob der Traisen, Reichersdorf, Ried and Theyern.
history
In Franzhausen there is a large urnfield burial ground, which with over 400 graves is one of the largest of its kind. The graves date from the older Urnfield period to the older Hallstatt period . In the middle of the burial ground was a central cremation site. Since the cemetery was not robbed, the stock of recovered finds is very rich. There were u. a. a richly decorated bronze cup, a bronze bowl, numerous meat knives, in the men's graves usually a razor, wire brooches, pendants and rings.
Late Hallstatt and Early La Tène Age graves were discovered in KG Reichersdorf , which show continuous use. A barrel urn with figural decoration was found in grave 20 as a grave goods - three large birds, a hunting scene as well as a musician with a lyre (?) And four dancers. The urn is in the custody of the Federal Monuments Office in Vienna .
In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province . In 1083 the place is mentioned for the first time with the name "Nuzdorf" in a document of the Göttweig Abbey . In the Middle Ages, Nussdorf was the seat of a lordship that was dissolved in 1848. In 1850 the three communities Franzhausen, Nussdorf and Reichersdorf were established. In 1866 the communities Franzhausen and Reichersdorf voluntarily united with Nussdorf. St. Georgen came to Traismauer from Nussdorf in 1895 . Theyern was re-congregated from Inzersdorf to Nussdorf in 1955 at the request of the population. In 1977 the community was raised to the market.
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1563 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1,446 inhabitants, in 1981 1301 and in 1971 1294 inhabitants.

Mayor of the market town is Heinz Konrath, ÖVP party chairman is GfGR Franz Brunthaler, head of department Markus Kotzina. After the municipal council elections in 2020, there are 19 seats in the municipal council as follows: SPÖ 10, ÖVP 9, others no seats.

- Urzeitmuseum Nußdorf ob der Traisen : In the museum u. a. Finds from the Bronze Age on display. The museum deals with the different epochs of prehistoric times , from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Museum visitors can test their archaeological knowledge in a quiz.

Economy and Infrastructure
Nussdorf is a traditional wine-growing place with the discovery of the oldest Austrian vines (4000 years old). There were 62 non-agricultural workplaces in 2001, agricultural and forestry operations 107 according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at the place of residence was 694. The 2001 employment rate was 46.44 percent.
