history

North American Airlines was founded in 1989 by Dan McKinnon and began operations on January 20, 1990, mainly feeder flights for El Al and Club Med . Dan McKinnon had previously served as Chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board .

The first charter flights were carried out with Boeing 757-200s , the first scheduled flights followed in the 1990s, for example San Juan was flown . Along with the expansion, some Boeing 767-300ERs were flown in for long-haul flights.

In addition to McKinnon, El Al was involved in the airline and held 24.9 percent of the shares, but sold them to McKinnon in July 2003. In April 2005 North American Airlines was acquired by World Air Holdings. On April 5, 2007, New ATA Holdings bought World Air Holdings' North American airlines, including North American Airlines.

In November 2013, North American Airlines, together with its parent company Global Aviation Holdings and its sister company World Airways, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy . Operations should be maintained and restructured. The heaviest carrier World Airways finally ceased operations in March 2014, and North American Airlines operated the last flight on June 7, 2014.

Destinations

North American Airlines has not operated any scheduled flights under its own name since 2008. Most recently, these have led to Accra ( Ghana ) and Georgetown ( Guyana ).

Most recently, the company mainly offered national and international charter flights and leased its own fleet. In addition, North American Airlines carried out troop flights on behalf of the United States Department of Defense , which often passed through Leipzig / Halle and Nuremberg airports .
