Railway stop in Oberbimbach
Platform at the train stop in Bimbach

The Oberbimbach stop on the Vogelsbergbahn , which opened in 1871, connects the town to the German railway network. Despite the merger of Ober- and Unterbimbach during the Hessian regional reform in the 1970s, the station name Oberbimbach has been preserved to this day. Curiously, the stopping point still bears the name Oberbimbach today (as of 2020) , although the eponymous place has not existed for decades and only the Oberbimbach district still exists. In the past there were efforts to leave the station open, but this was prevented due to protests from the local population and political initiatives. In addition, a link between rail and bus was discussed politically. The originally planned modernization of the Vogelsbergbahn was ultimately not based on the originally planned concept with the abandonment of several smaller regional train stops, but with a concept that the Vogelsbergbahn should accelerate, but fewer stops had to be abandoned. While more and more train stops in Oberbimbach were canceled and, in addition to regional trains, only regional express trains stopped during school hours, since the timetable change at the end of 2011, all trains have usually stopped in Oberbimbach, especially since there have only been accelerated regional trains on the route since then. A new operating concept has been in effect on the railway line since the end of 2011, with the lines from the former RB 25 and RB 35 lines being linked to the RB 45 to Limburg an der Lahn at a later date. Before that, there were major service gaps, especially in the morning. There are free connections in the direction of Fulda, Bad Salzschlirf, Lauterbach, Alsfeld, Gießen, Wetzlar, Weilburg and Limburg an der Lahn. In recent years, the evening offer in particular has been expanded so that trips from the direction of Fulda are still running after 11:00 p.m. The Oberbimbach stop is connected to the cycle path in the direction of Lauterbach and Fulda via the Hessian long-distance cycle path R2. It is located on the outskirts of Bimbach, in the immediate vicinity of the B 254. For several years the station has had dynamic passenger information and a park-and-ride facility. The stop is in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund.

Road traffic

The federal road 254 leads through Bimbach , which has an entrance and exit here. Coming from Felsberg it leads via Alsfeld and Lauterbach in the west past the core community of Großenlüder and to the east past the industrial area Fulda West near Fulda-Rodges to Fulda-Maberzell . From there it crosses the Maberzeller road and the Bardo road past the municipality Neuenberg and Fuldaauen . From there it leads past the city center of Fulda and over Frankfurter Straße to the so-called Bronnzeller roundabout , where there is a connection to the federal highway 27 .
