Bus transport

In addition to the city buses, regional buses from various public authorities also operate in Fulda. Since the timetable change in December 2019, there has been increasing coordination between the city bus and regional bus routes in order to create synergy effects.

City bus transport

In Fulda there is a city bus network currently consisting of nine lines that operate in the city of Fulda. Since the urban area does not coincide with the administrative boundaries of the city of Fulda, the city buses also run in parts of the communities of Großenlüder (district of Bimbach ), Künzell (districts of Engelhelms , Künzell-Bachrain , Pilgerzell ), Neuhof (district of Giesel ) and Petersberg (districts of Marbach , Petersberg , Steinau and Steinhaus ). The municipality of Eichenzell , which originally also belongs to the Fulda city area, is not served by city bus routes, but by various regional bus routes and the Rhön Railway .

history

At the latest after the Hessian regional reform in the 1970s, large parts of the administrative urban area of Fulda no longer coincided with the urban space around the city center. Petersberg , Künzell and Eichenzell in particular are to be mentioned as suburban communities, with parts of the communities Grossenlüder ( Bimbach ) and Neuhof ( Giesel ) also belonging to the dense urban area. Even then, city bus routes went to places such as Petersberg or Pilgerzell , which do not belong to the city of Fulda, while city districts, especially in the west of the city, were not served by city bus routes until 2004. Until the timetable change in December 2004, there was also transit. This was a minibus that drove through the city center every twelve minutes and connected larger parking lots. With the local transport plan, which came into force at the end of 2004, the transit dropped out. A similar concept still exists in the neighboring city of Hünfeld in Fulda .

Current situation

The third update of the local transport plan of the city of Fulda came into force with the timetable change in December 2019. Since then, nine city bus routes have been operating in Fulda and the surrounding area. Line 6 has by far the highest demand, the reason for this is the traffic to the university.
