Owen Willans Richardson
Sir Owen Willans Richardson (born April 26, 1879 in Dewsbury , † February 15, 1959 in Alton (Hampshire) ) was an English physicist .
After graduating from Cambridge in 1900 , he worked on the glowing electric effect at the University's Cavendish Laboratory . There he found the Richardson equation in 1901 , for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1928 . He continued his work on the subject in Cambridge until 1906.
In 1906 he was appointed professor of physics at Princeton University . In the same year he married Lilian Maud Wilson. This marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter. After the death of his wife in 1945, he married the physicist Henriette Rupp in 1948 .
Since 1910 he was a member of the American Philosophical Society . In 1930 he was awarded the Royal Medal of the Royal Society , of which he had been a fellow since 1913.
