The big industrialist Alfred Krupp had the car park hill built in the garden house style in 1870. It served as a restoration company for the building management of Villa Hügel. People outside the company were not allowed in, which Krupp himself decreed. The Villa Hügel was completed in 1872.

In 1882, the management of the building, now known as the parking garage, was taken over by the Krupp consumer institute . From 1905 the building served as a Krupp beer hall for officials and people from the factory to relax . Five years later, the hilltop restaurant was open to outsiders for the first time. Before the turn of the century in 1900, the Führkötter couple acted as administrators. Ludger Führkötter was previously a valet and his wife was a maid of the Krupp family. The hilltop restaurant developed into an excursion restaurant and offered space for more than 600 guests. The Führkötter couple managed it until October 31, 1930.

During the First World War , the house was turned into a hospital, in which the wounded were given food by the Führkötter couple. As a result of the war, occupation troops besieged the building for several months. It survived the Second World War undamaged, but served as emergency quarters for the Rhenish-Westphalian coal syndicate . After the end of the war, the house was occupied by Allied troops and then housed the Black Diamond officers' club - so called based on the black gold , the coal , in the Ruhr area . This American club existed until 1954, after which new tenants were sought.

In 1955 the former hilltop restaurant was given the name Parkhaus Hügel, which is still used today, from the new tenant Leo Imhoff because of its proximity to the adjacent hill park . Villa Hügel guests are still catered for in the parking garage. The reopening took place on February 11, 1955. The restaurant is still an excursion destination for upscale gastronomy. In 2004 Imhoff GmbH bought the Thyssen Krupp property and had it completely renovated. In addition to the restaurant, 13 hotel rooms are now also rented.
