Potok (Hungarian Patak ) is a municipality in Okres Ružomberok within Žilinský kraj in northern Slovakia with 100 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
The community is located in the western part of the Liptovská kotlina basin , a subunit of the Podtatranská kotlina on the stream of the same name. The center of the village is at an altitude of 554 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Ružomberok .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1273 in connection with the Liptov castle as Medecus , then in 1286 as Medekus Potoka as part of a donation of land ; the names probably refer to numerous mineral springs in the area, which gradually came to the municipality of Bešeňová . In the 13th century an important trade route led from Altsohl to Poland through Potok. The village belonged to families from the lower nobility such as Potocky and Kubinyi . In 1828 there were 12 houses and 92 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture.
Until 1918, the place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 112 inhabitants lived in Potok, 109 of them Slovaks and two Ukrainians. One resident made no statement. 57 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, 40 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and two residents supported the Orthodox Church. 13 residents were non-denominational.
