Revival is the second solo album by US singer and actress Selena Gomez . The studio album was released on October 9, 2015. Revival is the first studio album that Gomez released under the record label Interscope Records . Many concerts on the Revival World Tour had to be canceled due to Gomez's illness.
Creation and publication
Specific rumors about a second solo album arose in November 2014 after Gomez announced that she would be quitting her work at Hollywood Records after eight years and switching to Interscope Records . Over the months she revealed in interviews that the album was mostly recorded in Mexico and was darker and more adult than her previous albums. At the beginning of January 2015, a sound engineer announced that Gomez had recorded two new songs with Stargate (already known for working with Gomez on Come & Get It ). On February 23, 2015 the single I Want You to Know was released in collaboration with the German-Russian DJ Zedd . In the spring there were rumors that Selena Gomez was recording a song with rapper A $ AP Rocky . A $ AP Rocky confirmed this and even posted a picture with Gomez in the studio, whereas Selena Gomez denied such a collaboration. On June 22, 2015, she released a single with rapper A $ AP Rocky, namely Good for You . Gomez also announced that Good for You will be the first single from their second solo album. In further interviews with Good for You , Gomez announced that the album would be released towards the end of the year and that song number three (Hands to Myself) on her new album would be her favorite song. On July 10, Gomez posted a picture of her in the studio on her Instagram page with the caption Kill. Em. With. kindness .. 1 . This was followed by a video of her in the studio, where you can see an excerpt or hear her recording a new song. This video is subtitled 2 . But on the same day she published another photo of herself, with the subtitle .... / leading you.3 #soon ? ? . On the night of July 21st to 22nd, she posted another video on Instagram, where you can see her in the studio recording a song, then she walks towards a pad of paper and writes “Revival 10.9” in capital letters. Gomez said the following during interviews about Revival:
“The album is generally about my perspective of things - it's not just about one thing. There is that moment in your life when you step back and ask yourself, 'What is actually going on here? I'm happy? Are these people good for me? Why do these people do certain things to other people? ' (It's about) discovering what life is; Spirituality. There's a little bit of everything on the album. "
“I love to buy an album that tells me a story. Taylor (Swift) is really good at it. I think that being able to buy an album that follows a story is really authentic. For me this is a bigger challenge than just releasing a bunch of hits. That's what was important to me with this record. "
“The album is so different. There are many different styles of music on this album, so I'm really excited that everyone can finally hear the album. [...] There's a song about kindness and kindness on the album that I think it's crazy. It's so true, authentic and shows who I really am. I tried to find another Who Says because it is one of my favorite songs that I have ever recorded. I am sure that my fans will be excitedly waiting for my new album. [...] I worked with a lot of new people on this album. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't and so I just went to the studio to find out what would make the song special. I also always had an urge to bring something new out of my voice that has never been done before. "
At the beginning of August it was announced that the second single from the album would be called 'Same Old Love'. It has also announced the 'Same Old Love' in collaboration with MS Eriksen, TE Hermansen (known for working with Gomez as a songwriter at Come & Get It ) and the pop singer Charlotte Aitchison, better known as Charli XCX emerged is . Furthermore, many registrations of new songs under Selena Gomez's name were received by the American collecting society ASCAP . In an interview with the British radio presenter Olivia Jones, Gomez announced that Revival would neither work with Chris Brown nor with Zayn Malik and thus denied the rumors that were about the album. But she is always open to cooperation if asked. In the course of the interview, she announced that she had worked with the Swedish producer Max Martin , who is already known for his successful collaboration with Britney Spears , Katy Perry , Taylor Swift and The Weeknd . On August 27, Gomez published three videos on YouTube in which she wanted to draw attention to a fan event around Revival. The date of the event is September 16, 2015, and the venue is Los Angeles . In order to take part in this event, one must register in a competition on the selenagomez.com website.
The album has been available for pre-order on Amazon since September 10, 2015 . As with For You , the title list incorrectly appeared on the French site of Amazon, but it was withdrawn shortly afterwards. On September 10th, the title bar and the cover of the album officially appeared, which shows Gomez sitting completely naked on the floor. The cover is in black and white.
On September 26, 2015, a 30-second excerpt from Me & the Rhythm was published on YouTube . On October 1, 2015, she announced the Revival World Tour on her Instagram page . Gomez also announced that the tour would take place in Canada and the United States from May to July and then go overseas after that. Details of the tour were announced on Selena Gomez's website on October 5th. Me & the Rhythm was released as a promo single on October 2nd .
In an interview with USA Today in early October, Selena Gomez announced that she would like Sober to be the third single. On October 8, 2015, a teaser and the lyrics were published for each song Revivals.

On September 16, 2015, the fan event for Revival took place in Los Angeles, where around 200 fans were invited exclusively. There was a live performance of Good for You and Same Old Love, as well as the premiere of the song Revival .
From September 20 to 24, 2015, Selena Gomez gave various interviews on radio and television stations in London . On September 25th she traveled on to Paris and at a meeting gave selected fans the opportunity to hear the new album. She also gave many interviews on various radio stations and participated in many events.
On October 9, 2015, Gomez will present the new album on the Ellen Show. Same Old Love is also planning a live performance .
Published singles
Good for you
Good for You was released as a promo single on June 22, 2015 , which was created in collaboration with the American rapper A $ AP Rocky . It can be classified as a mid-tempo , pop , electro , R&B and hip-hop song. The video for Good for You was released on June 26th. Good for You was quite successful in the international and also in the German charts. It reached number 29 in the German charts, making it Gomez's second most successful single after Naturally . In the US charts, Good for You peaked at number 5, making it Selena Gomez's most successful single. On September 3rd, 2015 an EP with three different remixed versions of 'Good for You' was released.
Same old love
Same Old Love is the album's second single and was released on September 10th. There was a collaboration with MS Eriksen, T. Ermansen (known for working with Gomez as the songwriter on Come & Get It ) and the pop singer Charlotte Aitchison, better known as Charli XCX . On September 23, 2015, the music video for Same Old Love was released.
Me & the rhythm
Me & the Rhythm is the only promo single from the album and was released on October 2, 2015. It was written by Selena Gomez herself as well as Julia Michaels , Justin Tranter (both involved as songwriters for Good for You ), Robin Frediriksson and Mattias Larson. It was produced by the duo Mattman & Robin. An audio video was also released on Vevo on October 2nd.
"Hands to myself" was released on January 26, 2016 as the third single from the album. The music video for "Hands to myself", directed by Alek Keshishian, was released on December 21, 2015.
