history
Rohrberg is first mentioned in a document around 1350. In the tax cadastre of 1779 it forms a main team of the Zell nursing court. In 1817 the political municipality Rohrberg was formed from it.
From the 16th to the 18th century there was a trade union gold mining operation, which was closed in 1838 due to a lack of profitability. The stamp mill was located in Rohr at the foot of the Rohrberg. The former administration building of the mine, the so-called Gallerhaus, was acquired by the chamber singer Felix von Kraus from Munich and converted into a villa. The beautifully laid out Kraus Promenade is named after the great artist.
The facilities of the Kreuzjochbahn (formerly Ski-Zell, now Zillertal Arena ), the Grindlalm cable car (no longer in operation) and the Himmellifte are located in the Rohrberg municipality, which opened in 1978/79. With the construction of these climbing aids and the expansion of the main path to the Rohrberg, tourism in the community increased significantly.
Population development
economy
During the war years from 1939 to 1945, TIWAG built the Gerlos power plant at the foot of the Rohrberg , which in 1953 had to be transferred to Tauernkraftwerke (today's Verbund AG ). The four machine sets in the power house (576 m) use the water dammed in the 614 m higher Gmünd reservoir in Gerlostal (1190 m), which is fed to the plant in a 7.4 km long headrace tunnel.
The valley station of the “Zillertal Arena” is located in Rohrberg, and its lifts lead to the alpine pastures of Rohrberg.
traffic
Rohrberg is connected to the Zillertalstrasse B 169. There is a stop for the Zillertalbahn in nearby Zell am Ziller . Since September 2007 it has been possible to use the RegioTax . The RegioTax is offered in cooperation with the VVT ( Verkehrsverbund Tirol ) and the Rohrberg company Taxi Lois for the municipalities of Rohrberg and Gerlosberg as a means of local transport. One line runs at regular intervals to the mountain part of the municipality of Rohrberg and the municipality of Gerlosberg, the second line serves the districts in the valley area of the municipality of Rohrberg (Haslach, Klamml, Hochfeld, Mühlbachsiedlung and Rohr).
