Romagna (wine)

The Romagna wine region is located in the central Italian region of Emilia-Romagna . The white , red and sparkling wines produced here have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 2011 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

According to the Denominazione, cultivation is permitted in the following municipalities:

The area descriptions including the sub-zones are very extensive and therefore cannot be reproduced in detail here.

In 2017, 242,713 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced.

generation

The following types of wine (with naming of the grape variety and / or the sub-zone) are produced:

  • Romagna Albana Spumante: Must contain at least 95% Albana . A maximum of 5% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region may be added.
  • Romagna Cagnina: Must contain at least 85% terrano . A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region may be added.
  • Romagna Pagadebit and Romagna Pagadebit Bertinoro: Must contain at least 85% Bombino Bianco . A maximum of 15% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region may be added. In some regions the grape variety Bombino Bianco is also called Pagadebit , which translates as “debt payer”. The name comes from the fact that the farmer was able to pay the debts made during the wine year through the Bombino Bianco, because the variety is so hardy and fertile.
  • Romagna Sangiovese: Must contain at least 85% Sangiovese . A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region may be added.
  • Romagna Trebbiano: Must contain at least 85% Trebbiano Romagnolo . A maximum of 15% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region may be added.
  • Romagna Sangiovese with mention of the sub-zone (sottozona) , in each case also with the label Riserva : Must contain at least 95% Sangiovese . A maximum of 5% of other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region may be added. The following sub-zones are defined:
