The joint municipality of Land Wursten was a joint municipality in the district of Cuxhaven in Lower Saxony . Seven communities had come together in it to carry out their administrative business. The administrative seat of the joint municipality was in Dorum . The area of ​​the joint municipality covered an area of ​​116.64 km² and had a population of 9,580 as of December 31, 2014.

The combined municipality of Land Wursten is located in the Land Wursten landscape on the North Sea coast between Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven . It consists essentially of marshland . The municipality is between 0 and 21  m above sea level. NHN .

The joint municipality of Land Wursten was formed for the regional reform in Lower Saxony on March 1, 1974 and consisted of the following seven member municipalities:

history

Sausage is historically a part of Friesland . Unlike the Frisian dialects in North Frisia or Saterland , the Wurst Frisian language has died out in Wursten, but was able to last longer than in most other areas of eastern Friesland because of the peripheral location of the region .

Incorporation / merger

The joint community merged on 1 January 2015 the municipality Nordholz and since then forms the unified community Wurster North Sea coast .

Joint council

The council of the joint municipality of Land Wursten consisted of 24 council women and councilors. This is the specified number for a joint municipality with a population between 9001 and 10,000 inhabitants. The council members were elected by local elections for five years each. The current term of office began on November 1, 2011 and ended on October 31, 2014 when the congregation was dissolved.

The full-time mayor of the joint municipality was also entitled to vote and sit on the council of the joint municipality .

Justification of the coat of arms: The half eagle, which can be found in many Frisian coats of arms, indicates the sovereignty of the Frisian land of Wursten, the wavy bar indicates the rivers and moats. The green area stands for the march. The shamrocks are symbols of agriculture. Their number indicates the merger of the seven municipalities to form the combined municipality of Land Wursten.

Community partnerships

Since May 5, 2005 a partnership existed with the city of Ploeren ( France ) in Brittany , near Vannes . The partnership has been continued by the municipality of Wurster North Sea Coast since the dissolution of the joint municipality of Land Wursten.

A sponsorship exists since May 1st, 2003 with the 3rd flying squadron of the Naval Aviation Squadron 3 "Graf Zeppelin" in Nordholz .

    • The St. Catherine's Church in Misselwarden is a single-nave brick building from the 13th century with a square west tower (around 1500)
    • The Marien Church in Mulsum - a massive rock stone building - was built around 1250
    • The St. Matthew Church in Padingbüttel was built at the end of the 13th century as a hall with a retracted choir . The Gothic winged altar (around 1480) is remarkable
    • The Willehadi Church in Wremen is a fortified church from around 1200 and thus the oldest church in Wursten

Economically, the municipality of Land Wursten was strongly geared towards tourism. It was one of the centers of tourism in the so-called Cuxland .

Wremen and Dorum are train stops on the Bremerhaven – Cuxhaven railway line . The joint tariff of the Bremen / Lower Saxony transport association is used for tickets .

The combined community could be reached in a north-south direction via the federal motorway 27 , junctions Nordholz and Neuenwalde and via the state road  135 from Cuxhaven or Bremerhaven. From Holßel the state road 119 leads west to Dorum.
