Ploeren ( Breton Ploveren ) is a French municipality with 6575 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . The municipality belongs to the canton of Vannes-2 in the arrondissement of Vannes . Its inhabitants are called Ploerenios .
geography
Ploeren is in the hinterland of the Gulf of Morbihan about nine kilometers west of Vannes . Ploeren is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Plescop in the north, Vannes in the east, Arradon in the south, Baden in the southwest and Plougoumelen in the west.
Route Nationale 165 runs through the municipality .
history
Stone tools have been handed down from the Neolithic Age. A Merovingian necropolis suggests an early settlement. The Notre-Dame de Béléan chapel was built during the Crusades in the 13th century.

Community partnerships
In 2005, Ploeren entered into a partnership with the German municipality of Land Wursten in Lower Saxony . Since the dissolution of the joint municipality in 2015, the partnership has been continued by the municipality of Wurster Nordseeküste .
