Elven ( Breton : An elven ) is a French commune in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . Elven belongs to the arrondissement of Vannes and belongs to the canton of Questembert . The 6021 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) are called Elvenois .
geography
Elven is located in the Landes de Lanvaux countryside , around 17 kilometers northeast of Vannes on the Arz river . Elven is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Trédion in the north, Le Cours in the northeast, Larré in the east, La Vraie-Croix in the southeast, Sulniac and Treffléan in the south, Saint-Nolff in the southwest, Monterblanc in the west and Plaudren in the northwest.
Route nationale 166 and the former route nationale 776 run through the municipality .
history
The place name goes back to the martyr Alban of England . Elven was founded by British people who left the islands in the fifth century and settled in Aremorica. Around 900 fortifications were built to defy the Norman invasions.
