Muzillac (Breton: Muzilheg) is a commune with 5015 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Morbihan department in the region of Brittany . It is part of the Communauté de communes Arc Sud Bretagne .
location
Muzillac is located in the southeast of the Morbihan department, about 20 kilometers east of Vannes , and is the capital of the canton of the same name . Neighboring communities are Noyal-Muzillac , Arzal , Billiers , and Ambon . Muzillac is inland, about five kilometers from the coast.
The Saint-Éloi , which is dammed up in the municipal area to the Étang de Pen Mur, flows through Muzillac .
history
The first written mention of Muzillacs comes from the year 1070. At that time the district of Bourg Pol was the seat of the parish church. The family of the lords of Muzillac appears for the first time in 1123 in the Redon copial book .
From 1288 to 1432, Muzillac was the seat of the Audit Office of Brittany.
From 1678 until the French Revolution , Muzillac was the seat of a convent of the Ursulines .
In 1790 Muzillac was declared an independent municipality and the capital of the canton of the same name. The parish church remained in the Bourg Pol district until the church tower burned down in 1934. The current parish church of Sainte-Thérèse was built between 1930 and 1934.

Muzillac has two exits from the motorway-like N165 , which leads from Nantes via Vannes , Lorient and Quimper to Brest .
Between 1903 and 1947, Muzillac had its own station, the Chemins de fer du Morbihan . Today Questembert is the nearest train station 15 km away.
Attractions
At the Étang de Pen Mur is the mill of the same name, which uses 18th century techniques to make paper.
Culture
Muzillac has its own cinema 'Jeanne d'Arc' and the cultural center 'Center d'Animation du Vieux Couvent à Muzillac', which also houses the community library.
