Malansac ( Breton Malañseg ) is a French municipality with 2,198 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany .
geography
Malansac is less than 20 km west of the small town of Redon in the east of the Morbihan department. Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Gravé in the north, Peillac in the northeast, Saint-Jacut-les-Pins in the east, Caden and Limerzel in the south, Questembert in the southwest and Pluherlin and Rochefort-en-Terre in the west.
history
There is little evidence of the early history of the community. There are remains from prehistoric and Gallo-Roman times. The place was first mentioned by name in 847 in the Redon collection of documents. The community was part of various feudal lords in the Middle Ages. Several monasteries and churches were built between the 9th and 13th centuries. Only a few remains of them have remained. Historically, the community belongs to the Pays de Redon (Breton: Bro-Redon). After the French Revolution , it was a combat zone between Republican troops and the Chouans. Politically, Malansac became a municipality in 1790. From 1793 on, Malansac belonged to the canton of Roche des Trois and the Rochefort district. From 1801 it was part of the arrondissement of Vannes and as a municipality from 1801 to 2015 it was part of the canton of Rochefort-en-Terre (canton of Rochefort until 1892).
Population development
The population remained for a long time at about the same level of around 2000 people (1793-1856). This was followed by a growth phase that ended with the historical high population level in 1886. Between 1886 and 1911 the number of residents decreased slightly. Because of the flu and the war casualties, it fell slightly within a decade (1911–1921: −6.3%). Between 1921 and 1962 there was always a slight decrease in population. After that, the number of residents remained at around 1900 for decades. Since 1999 the population has been growing again and has meanwhile reached the level of 1921 again. The development:
