St. Georgen am Walde (also Sankt Georgen am Walde ) is a market town in Upper Austria in the Perg district in the Mühlviertel with 1965 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The municipality has been part of the Perg judicial district since 2003 (previously part of the former Grein judicial district ). The location of the responsible district court is in Perg .

geography

St. Georgen am Walde is located at an altitude of 787 m in the Mühlviertel. The extension is from north to south 8.6 km, from west to east 12.1 km. The total area is 53.5 km². 52.1% of the area is forested, 44.7% of the area is used for agriculture.

In terms of area, St. Georgen am Walde is the largest municipality in the Perg district and with the 949 meter high "Burgstall" it also has the highest elevation in the district.

history

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.
