Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame
Admission to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame is an award given to authors and artists for their life's work in the field of science fiction and fantasy . Works from this area have also been recognized since 2016.
The award was established in 1996 by the Kansas City SF and Fantasy Society and the J. Wayne and Elsie M. Gunn Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas , initially awarded exclusively to authors of science fiction literature has been. Originally, two living people were honored annually and two deceased were awarded posthumously .
In 2004 the Hall of Fame moved to the Experience Music Project Museum in Seattle and the name was changed to the Science Fiction Hall of Fame . From 2005 onwards, authors and artists from other media were recognized in addition to writers in four categories ( film , literature , media and open ). In 2013 the Fantasy category was added and the name was changed back to the original Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame .
In 2016, for the 20th anniversary, the structure was changed again, at the same time the EMP Museum was renamed the Museum of Pop Culture . In addition to authors, works are now also included in the Hall of Fame . In addition, 13 people and 7 works were honored. The winners this year included not only science fiction writers, but also actors like Leonard Nimoy and Keith David , directors like Guillermo del Toro and Terry Gilliam , puppeteer filmmaker Jim Henson , cartoonists Jack Kirby and Rumiko Takahashi and the composer John Williams .
