Semikarakorsk ( Russian Семикаракорск ) is a city in Rostov Oblast ( Russia ) with 23,884 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 140 km northeast of the oblast capital Rostov-on-Don on the left bank of the Don , above the mouth of the Sal .
Semikarakorsk is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
The nearest railway station is Ust-Donetskaya 25 kilometers north.
history
The Stanitsa Semikarakorskaja of the Don Cossacks was first mentioned in 1672. Due to frequent floods, the Staniza was relocated several times. Since 1845 it has been in the place of today's city.
During the Second World War , Stanitsa Semikarakorskaya was occupied by the German Wehrmacht in the summer of 1942 and was recaptured on January 4, 1943 by troops from the newly formed southern front of the Red Army .
In 1958, the Stanitsa received the status of an urban-type settlement as Semikarakorski . On May 25, 1972, on the occasion of its 300th anniversary, the city was granted city rights.

Culture and sights
Not far from the city are the remains of a Khazarian city and fortress. In Stanitsa Kochetovskaya there is a museum dedicated to the Cossack writer Vitaly Sakrutkin (1908–1984), who lived there for many years.
economy
In Semikarakorsk there are mainly companies in the food industry (canned food, cheese, meat processing), as well as a textile and ceramics factory and companies in the building materials industry.
