Swerevo ( Russian Зверево ) is a city in Rostov Oblast ( Russia ) with 22,411 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the eastern part of the Donets Ridge about 140 km northeast of the Oblast capital Rostov-on-Don in the area of several streams that flow into the Kundryuchya , a right tributary of the Seversky Donets .
Swerewo is administratively directly subordinate to the oblast .
The city lies on the railway line Moscow - Voronezh - Rostov-on-Don (line kilometer 1085), from which lines branch off in the direction of Debaltseve and Donets Basin ( Ukraine ) as well as to Sinegororsky (station Krasnodonezkaya ). A few kilometers east of Swerevo, the M4 Moscow – Rostov highway runs past the Don – Novorossiysk .
history
Swerewo emerged at the beginning of the 20th century as a miners' settlement in connection with the mining of coal deposits . In 1929 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and in 1989 the town charter .
