Ust-Donezki ( Russian Усть-Доне́цкий ) is an urban-type settlement in the Rostov Oblast ( Russia ) with 11,817 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located about 100 km east-northeast of the Rostov Oblast Administrative Center on the high right bank of the Seversky Donets , about five kilometers above its confluence with the Don .
Ust-Donetski is the administrative center of the Ust-Donetsky Rajon of the same name .
history
Ust-Donetsky goes back to a hamlet (chutor) that originated as a resettlement of Stanitsa Kochetovskaya (today on the right bank of the Don), which was not far from the Donets arm Sukhoi Donets ("Dry Donets") and was first mentioned in 1837. The hamlet was known under the names Chrestzy, Christowski or Krestowski, most recently also Kresty .
In connection with the construction of a river port on Seversky Donets, a larger settlement was built there around 1960, which was given the status of an urban-type settlement under its current name in 1961. The name refers to the location not far from the Donets mouth (Russian ustje for 'mouth').

Economy and Infrastructure
Important companies in the settlement are the southwestern river port on one arm of the Seversky Donets and the repair yard there. There has also been a textile factory (Gloria Jeans) since 2003 .
Ust-Donetsky is the end point of a 68 km long, electrified railway line from the Gornaya station (on the main Moscow - Rostov line between Krasny Sulin and Shakhty ), which was built in connection with the construction of the river port and is operated by the North Caucasian Railway . The regional road that connects Shakhty to the right of the Don with Zimlyansk passes north of the village .
