The ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup 2012/13 (sponsors Name: Samsung World Cup Short Track ISU 2012-13 ) is one of the International Skating Union organized (ISU) series of competitions in short track speed skating . The competitions took place in the period from October 21, 2012 with Calgary as the first competition station to February 10, 2013 with the World Cup final in Dresden . World Cups are only awarded in the individual disciplines, in contrast to most other winter sports there is no overall World Cup ranking.

Venues for the 2012/13 season

The series of events of the World Cup consisted of six events, which can be divided into three two-part series both chronologically and geographically (as you can see on the adjacent world map). The first two events took place in North America at the end of October, namely in the two Canadian cities of Calgary and Montreal . The second series of two followed in early December in East Asia with Nagoya in Japan and Shanghai in China as venues. Finally, at the beginning of February, the third and last two-series in Europe followed with the Russian Sochi , the venue for the Olympic Games in the following year, and with the World Cup final in Dresden .

At each event, women and men ran the individual distances of 500 meters, 1000 meters and 1500 meters. Alternately, one of these three routes was run a second time at each event, the 1000 meters at the first and fourth events, the 500 meters at the second and fifth events and the 1500 meters at the third and sixth events. Thus, each individual route was run a total of eight times. In addition, there was a relay race over 3000 meters and 5000 meters in each event location for women and men. Finally, there was a country ranking at each event, separately for men and women. The World Cup points from the relay race as well as the two best athletes with their World Cup points from the individual races flowed into the country ranking. Only countries that achieved at least one World Cup point in each of the five competitions were rated.
