Ski jumping season 1978/79

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1978/79 ski jumping season is an overview of the most important ski jumping competitions in the 1978/79 winter sports season. Outstanding competitions in this pre-Olympic winter were the Four Hills Tournament and the 5th Ski Flying World Championships in Planica . Since various traditional ski jumping competitions overlapped, especially in February and March 1979, the FIS finally decided at its 32nd Congress in Nice in mid-May 1979 to introduce a ski jumping World Cup for the coming 1979/80 winter sports season. It followed a development that began in the early 1970s with the introduction of the Alpine Ski World Cup.
