The Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR) is a Founded in 1970, international, multi-disciplinary and scientific organization , dedicated to the psychotherapy research dedicated. The idea of an international society of psychotherapists was first discussed in 1968 at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association .

The society is divided into chapters in the UK , Europe , Latin America and North America . The company also consists of so-called “area groups” in Australia , Italy and other specific locations.

Goals and story

SPR promotes the development of psychotherapy research, supports and strengthens both the empirical basis and the application in psychotherapy research. Psychotherapy research is funded, for example, by awarding research grants for pilot studies. This in turn enables scientists to acquire further funding for larger studies based on them.

Society also plays a major role in the international exchange and networking of psychotherapy researchers. Society offers many opportunities for this: Regular conferences are held to communicate research content and methodological innovations, and research content, methods, results and the application of psychotherapy research are disseminated through printed and electronic media.

The Society was founded in September 1968 in San Francisco , then affiliated with the annual convention of the American Psychological Association. This meeting was supported by small donations from the APA Division of Psychotherapy and the American Academy of Psychotherapists. The initiative to found the group came from Kenneth I. Howard and David E. Orlinsky , with the support of Lester Luborsky , Nathanael Raskind and Hans H. Strupp . The SPR's first official convention was held in Highland Park , Illinois in June 1969 .
