Sterzhausen is a district of Lahntal , a municipality in the central Hessian district of Marburg-Biedenkopf with around 2000 inhabitants.

history

Both the Romanesque chapel and the village of Sterzhausen very likely originally belonged to the Diaconate Kesterburg ( Christenberg ) and the parish of Schönstadt. Near the village there is also the remains of a former find Wallenburg , the castle Eckel Church .

On December 31, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the municipalities of Caldern, which consisted of the former municipalities of Caldern and Kernbach, and Sterzhausen to form the newly formed municipality of Lahntal. The seat of the municipal administration was Sterzhausen. For Sterzhausen, as for the other former municipalities of Lahntal, a local district with a local advisory board and local chief was formed according to the Hessian municipal code.

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Sterzhausen was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1821

With an edict of June 29, 1821, administration and justice were separated in Kurhessen. Now judicial offices were responsible for the first instance jurisdiction, the administration was taken over by the districts. The Marburg district was responsible for the administration and the Wetter Judicial Office was the court of first instance for Sterzhausen. The Supreme Court was the Higher Appeal Court in Kassel . The higher court of Marburg was subordinate to the province of Upper Hesse. It was the second instance for the judicial offices.

After the annexation of Kurhessen by Prussia, the judicial office of Wetter became the royal Prussian district court of Wetter in 1867 . In June 1867, a royal ordinance was issued that reorganized the court system in the areas that belonged to the former Electorate of Hesse. The previous judicial authorities were to be repealed and replaced by local courts in the first, district courts in the second and an appeal court in the third instance. In the course of this, on September 1, 1867, the previous judicial office was renamed the Wetter District Court. The courts of the higher authorities were the Marburg District Court and the Kassel Court of Appeal .

Even with the entry into force of the Courts Constitution Act (GVG) in 1877, the district court remained in existence. In 1943 the district court became a branch of the district court of Marburg and in 1946 the branch was also closed. The district of the district court of Wetter merged with the district of the district court of Marburg.

In the Federal Republic of Germany, the superordinate instances are the Marburg Regional Court , the Frankfurt am Main Higher Regional Court and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.

Buildings

The old fortified church typical of the region is worth seeing , the origin of which probably goes back to a Romanesque chapel, as well as a tree monument at the old forester's house on the edge of the Wollenberg forest. Coming from Wetter , the Ubbelohderadweg also runs along this path , on which there is a barbecue hut, from which Sterzhausen and part of the upper Lahn valley can be seen. The Ubbelohderadweg finally meets the Lahntal-Radweg near Caldern .

The church building

The fortified church of Sterzhausen

The fortified tower of the church, visible from afar, is the landmark of the place. It is by far the oldest building in Sterzhausen. It is very likely that the foundation walls of the tower go back to a Romanesque chapel . In 1383 a pastor from Caldern is mentioned who looked after the Sterzhausen chapel.

During a renovation, the oldest beams in the tower were dated to 1246 using an exact procedure. The special plaster on the east side of the tower, which was restored at that time and is unique for its time, also dates from this time. During an attack, all the villagers holed up on the upper floor of the tower. The only access (on the roof above today's pulpit) was closed by a heavy door and this was secured from the inside with a strong crossbar. This locking system can still be seen today. Secured in this way, you were reasonably safe for several days - until the defenders arrived.

In the choir are murals obtained from the 13th century, were uncovered in 1962: Crisscross, black rooster tail feathers, crosses and ten stars. On the east wall, in pale green colors, you can see a judging Christ in the mandorla with a sword in his mouth from the late Romanesque (12th / 13th century). Another old image of Christ is suspected to be below this. A hipped roof with four roof cores from a later period covers the tower and walkway. Today's nave is a classicist hall from 1836 with characteristic semicircular windows. It was rebuilt after the great fire at the beginning of the last century. The four apostles and Martin Luther with the swan - a special feature - are depicted on the west gallery. This picture was taken from the Lutherhalle in Wittenberg . In the 1960s, two tombstones for the deceased sons of Pastor Ruppersberger from 1664 and 1667 were placed in the surrounding wall next to the morgue.

Infrastructure

Local supply

Besides Goßfelden , Sterzhausen is the second district with a central function and all shops for daily needs. The administrative seat of the municipality of Lahntal is in Sterzhausen. Sterzhausen has a Protestant church, a primary school, a kindergarten, a volunteer fire brigade, a community hall and gym (with a large photovoltaic system), several playgrounds, football fields, two banks, a pharmacy, an ice cream parlor and four restaurants.

traffic

Regional trains of the Kurhessenbahn stop every hour at Sterzhausen station on the Oberen Lahntalbahn ( Marburg - Biedenkopf - Bad Laasphe - Erndtebrück ) . The platform was renewed and paved in the mid-2000s. It is 55 centimeters high and easily accessible for people with reduced mobility.
