The 2001/02 season was the sixth season of the Superliga . Lokomotive Yaroslavl secured the championship title for the second time , while HK CSKA Moscow and Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod were relegated to the Vysschaya League .
Main round
mode
The 18 teams of the Superliga initially played against each other in a common main round, with each team playing 51 season games. The eight best-placed teams then qualified for the play-offs, in which the champions were played, while the last two were relegated to the second division. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win in overtime, and one point for a draw after overtime as well as a loss after overtime. No points were awarded for a defeat after normal time.
