Tahara ( Japanese 田原 市 , - shi ) is a Japanese city in Aichi Prefecture .
geography
Tahara stretches for almost 30 km across much of the Atsumi Peninsula . In the northeast it is bounded by Tahara Bay ( 田原 湾 , Tahara-wan ), while in the northeast the Fukue Bay ( 福 江湾 , Fukue-wan ) joins the Fukue Watt ( 福 江干 潟 , Fukue-higata ). Near Tahara Bay is the uninhabited island of Himeshima ( 姫 島 ; 34 ° 42 ′ 45 ″ N , 137 ° 14 ′ 58 ″ E ).
history
Tahara is an old castle town where the Miyake resided last .
On August 20, 2003, the communities of Tahara and Akabane ( 赤 羽 根 町 , -chō ) of Atsumi County merged to form the city of Tahara. On October 1 , 2005 , the community Atsumi ( 渥 美 町 , -chō ) was integrated into the city of Tahara.
economy
The Toyota Motor Corporation has a large automotive plant in Tahara, where cars of the brand Lexus as well as some models of Toyota to be produced.

Tahara can be reached via national roads 42 and 259. The Mikawa Tahara station is the terminus of Atsumi-line , by the railway company Toyohashi Tetsudo is operated.
