The Sporting News Most Valuable Player Award
The " Sporting News Most Valuable Player Award " was an annual award for the most valuable baseball player in each of the two major league baseball leagues . The winners were chosen by the baseball experts from among the journalists of the US sports magazine The Sporting News . One player each from the American League and the National League was awarded.
The award was officially discontinued in 1946. Despite all of this, one MLB player has been awarded the The Sporting News Player of the Year Award every year (since 1936) , which is the only one given for the entire MLB and not for one player per league.
