Footballer of the Year (Czech Republic)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The title of Czech Footballer of the Year has been awarded since the country gained independence in 1993.

Olympia-Verlag held the rights to the election until 2006, and since then they have belonged to the Czech Football Association . This also changed the group of eligible voters. Whereas previously primarily first division footballers voted, the Czech Republic’s Footballer of the Year is now chosen by members of a so-called football academy, which includes first division coaches, first division captains, national players with at least 25 international matches, former footballer of the year, media representatives and association officials. The election usually takes place at the beginning of the year for the previous calendar year. Record title holder is Petr Čech with nine appointments. The predecessor of the honor was the election of Czechoslovakia Footballer of the Year from 1965 to 1992 . In addition to the title of Czech Footballer of the Year, journalists also award the Zlatý míč (Czech for Golden Ball ) for the best player of the season .
