List of alumni of the Catholic University of Leuven
This list includes well-known former and current members of the Catholic University of Leuven .
The Belgian Bishops' Conference had founded the Catholic University of Mechelen in Mechlin in 1834 , which was then moved to Leuven in 1835.
As a result of the language dispute, the Catholic University of Leuven was converted into two independent universities in 1968: the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven , which remained in Leuven, and the French-speaking Université catholique de Louvain , for which from 1971 a new city south of the language border, Louvain-la-Neuve , was built. For relatives from this period, it is noted which university the assignment refers to (KULeuven / UCL). Personalities from before the split are considered to be members of both universities.
