University of California, Davis
The University of California, Davis ( UC Davis ; German University of California, Davis ) was founded in 1905 and is part of the University of California ( UC ), a system of state universities in the US state of California . The university campus is located in Davis , about 25 km west of Sacramento . In the fall of 2005, 29,637 students were enrolled at the university. The university is a member of the Association of American Universities , an association of leading research-intensive North American universities that has existed since 1900.
history
On March 18, 1905, a law was passed that provided for the establishment of a university farm . As the third UC campus, it began operations in 1909 with 40 students from UC Berkeley . The first female students were admitted in 1914. In 1959, the campus was officially accepted as the seventh campus in the University of California system.
Sports
The UC Davis sports teams call themselves the Aggies . The university is a member of the Big West Conference .
Incidents
In November 2011, a police officer attacked peacefully protesting students of the Occupy movement with pepper spray. Since then, the UC has been trying to remove this incident from the results lists of search engines such as Google with considerable effort.
