Soccer West Asian Championship
The Football West Asian Championship (English West Asian Football Federation Championship ) is a football contest of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF West Asian Football Federation ), which has been held since 2000 in fact in every two years. The tournament was supposed to take place in Lebanon in 2006, but was canceled due to the Lebanon War .
The twelve member associations of the WAFF are entitled to participate. Other associations from the region are sometimes invited to the West Asian Championships. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have already taken part in the tournament. The record winner is the Iranian national soccer team , which has not participated since 2014 because Iran has merged with other Central Asian teams to form the new regional association CAFA .
Not to be confused, the West Asian Championships with the football tournament as part of the West Asian Games will be held (West Asian Games), just as with the Gulf Cup of Nations , although this is also a tournament west Asian Nations (namely the Arab countries bordering the Persian Gulf).
