Westend was an Austrian pop band from the 1980s . It consisted of the singers Gary Lux , Peter Vieweger , Bernhard Rabitsch and Hans Christian Wagner as well as the dancer Patricia Tandien .
successes
The group was founded in 1983 to participate in the Austrian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . With the song Hurricane , composed by Peter Vieweger and texted by Heli Deinboek and Heinz Nessizius , they were able to beat the second-placed Waterloo as close as possible . In the 1983 competition in Munich , the band achieved ninth place among 20 participants with 53 points.
The song - with the English version as B-side - was released as a single shortly after the competition and climbed to 8th place in the Austrian single charts . Despite the commercial success, the group broke up shortly afterwards.
