September 1939 and its aftermath
In September 1939, German and Soviet troops invaded Poland, with the country and the Krakow Voivodeship subordinated to the General Government and later to the Galicia District . A western part was illegal under international law the " Greater German Reich " to the province of Upper Silesia (counties Krenau , Bielsko and Zywiec connected). After 1945, most of the area came back to Poland and was incorporated into the Krakow Voivodeship (1945–1975) .
