Yücel Erten 2011

Yücel Erten (born October 19, 1945 in Muş ) is a Turkish actor , director , writer , translator and artistic director . He became general director of the Turkish State Theater.

Life

He attended elementary and middle school in Antalya from 1951 and the grammar school in Ankara in 1960 . In 1969 he completed theater training at the State Conservatory in Ankara. At the Turkish State Theater, he first worked as an actor and as an assistant director.

In 1970 Erten began studying directing at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen in the Federal Republic of Germany . During his studies, he worked as an assistant director at the Schauspielhaus Zurich (1972), at the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover (1973), at the Städtische Bühnen Essen (assistant director 1974) and at Stage 64 in Switzerland (assistant director 1975). His additional studies consisted of stage design and costume studies and a clown course.

From 1974–1976 he worked as an ensemble teacher at the Ankara State Drama School. From 1976 Erten began working as a director at the Ankara State Theater. He worked for Deutsche Welle in Cologne from 1977 to 1979 as an editor , translator and speaker . He taught directing at the Theater Department of Ankara University (1979–1996). He is the founder and artistic director of the Kunsthaus Ankara. From 1992 to 1994 he was general director of the Turkish State Theater. In 2000 he left the State Theater and was director of the İzmit City Theater from 2002 to 2004 . He has been working as a freelance director since 2004.
