Origin and meaning

Yves is the French form of Ivo . The name is derived from yew : West Indo- European oiwa , of which z. B. Old High German iwa or Kymrian ywen . In the past, the bow of the arrow was mainly made of yew wood and that is why the name translates into "the archer".

A name joke has been circulating in the German-speaking area since 2005, which is about a child being called Üffes and when asked that the name YVES is spelled. The first evidence is a blog entry from 2005. The joke has been widespread since around 2008 and Üffes has become a nickname for Yves.
