History and etymology

Zieckau Manor, Duncker Collection , around 1860

The name Zieckau (former spellings Zycan, Ziko or Cynkow) comes from Sorbian and is derived from the personal name Cik . The first written record dates from 1420. It tells of a investiture of Eberhard and later the brothers to Senftenberg Luckau by the Governor Hans von Polenz with two hoofs in the village to Cyknow . In the 16th century the lands were owned by the von Schlieben . They passed to Upitz von Bomsdorf in 1615 and to Siegmund (Seyfried) Genfried von der Dahm in 1642 and to von Knoch in 1720. In 1745 Hans Christian von Thermo owned Zieckau until the Landesbank Luckau acquired the manor house built in 1840 in 1906. Only three years later it became the property of the von Lochow family , until they were expropriated after the end of the Second World War . After resettlers were quartered there, the district divided the areas up to Kötter . With effect from September 1, 1998, Zieckau was incorporated into the Luckau office.
