542nd Grenadier Division

The 542nd Grenadier Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on July 7, 1944 at the Stablack military training area in East Prussia . On August 12, 1944, the division was renamed the 542nd Infantry Division . On October 9, 1944, the division was given the final designation 542nd Volksgrenadier Division . The division fought on the Narew Front and in April 1945 fell into Soviet captivity on the Hela peninsula in West Prussia .
