561st Grenadier Division

The 561st Grenadier Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on July 24, 1944 under the name Grenadier Division East Prussia 1st in Preussisch Eylau in East Prussia . On July 27, 1944, the division was renamed the 561st Grenadier Division. A few months later, on October 9, 1944, the division was renamed the 561st Volks-Grenadier-Division . In March 1945 the unit was trapped and destroyed by the Red Army in the Battle of Königsberg in East Prussia .
