- June 22nd : a Frankish army under the East Frankish King Ludwig IV is destroyed by the Hungarians on the Lechfeld near Augsburg . Among other things, Gebhard dies, whose duchy Lotharingien to the West Franconian King Charles III. falls behind. This places Reginhar I as margrave.

- Summer: King Alfonso III. of Asturias is forced by his sons to abdicate, whereupon they divide his empire among themselves. García I. receives León , Ordoño II. Receives Galicia and Fruela II. Receives Asturias. Alfons III goes into exile and dies on December 20th in Zamora .

- January 4th : Abū ʿAbdallāh al-Shīʿī moves into Raqqada with the hitherto hidden leader of the Ismaili Fatimids after his victory over the Aghlabids . He takes on the title of caliph and, as Abdallah al-Mahdi, leads the government of the Fatimid Empire. Since Abū ʿAbdallāh al-Shīʿī had hoped that al-Mahdi would be satisfied with spiritual guidance and give him worldly rule, tensions soon arise.

Duke William I of Aquitaine founded on September 11 , the monastery of Cluny , the starting point and the center of a major reform of the Church is. Duke Wilhelm renounces any power over the monastery and excludes any interference of secular or spiritual power in the internal affairs of the monastery ( exemption and immunity ). In particular, he renounces the economic use of the lands. The monastery itself is placed under the direct protection of the Pope , an innovation for the 10th century. Wilhelm only appoints the first abbot Berno and then allows the convent to freely elect an abbot.
