A155 (Russia)

The A155 ( Russian А155 ) is a trunk road of federal importance in the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic of the Russian Federation .

The A155 is part of the historic Sukhum military road , which connects the Russian North Caucasus with the Abkhazian capital Sukhumi . On Russian territory it leads from the republic capital Cherkessk up the river Kuban in a southerly direction to the tourist centers Teberda and Dombai not far from the main ridge of the Greater Caucasus . The road is 125 km long.

The 65 km long section from Kotschubejewskoje near Nevinnomyssk in the Stavropol region on the R217 Kawkas (formerly M29 ) via Erken-Shachar to Cherkessk has been a branch of the R217 since 2010 as a connection to a capital of a federal entity.

Expansion plans

In July 2010, the Russian government announced that it would work with the government of the Republic of Abkhazia, which has broken away from Georgia, to create a new road link along the old military road from Cherkessk to the Abkhazian capital Sukhumi. The A 155 is to be connected to the existing road on the Abkhaz side through the Kodori Valley . So far there has only been an unpaved connection between the two roads over the Kluchorski Pass at an altitude of 2781 m.
