Aaron Kent Broten (born November 14, 1960 in Roseau , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 782 games for the Colorado Rockies , New Jersey Devils , Minnesota North Stars , Nordiques during his active career between 1979 and 1992 de Québec , Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . In 2007, Broten was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame for his services to ice hockey in the United States .
Career
Aaron Broten began his career as a hockey player in the team of the University of Minnesota , for which he was active from 1979 to 1981 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With his university team he won the championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the 1980/81 season . For him personally, too, the time at the University of Minnesota was very successful. First he was named Freshman of the Year in 1980, the best beginner, the WCHA, and in 1981 in their ALl-Star Team, as well as the All-Tournament Team of the entire NCAA. Towards the end of the 1980/81 season , the center made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Colorado Rockies , who had already selected him in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round as a total of 106 players.
After the Colorado Rockies were relocated following his rookie year , the 1981/82 season , bread remained in their successor team, the New Jersey Devils , for which he was a regular in the following seven and a half years and with whom he was only in the 1987/88 season Playoff semifinals for the Stanley Cup failed to the Boston Bruins . On January 5, 1990 he was finally given in exchange for Bob Brooke to the Minnesota North Stars . For the North Stars he scored nine goals in 42 games and provided 14 templates by the end of the season. He was then committed in the NHL Waiver Draft by the Nordiques de Québec . For the team from Québec City, he played only 20 games before shortly after the start of the season within Canada on November 17, 1990, together with Lucien DeBlois and Michel Petit in exchange for Scott Pearson and a second-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft in 1991 and 1992 was given to the Toronto Maple Leafs .
For the 1991/92 season Broten signed a contract as a free agent with the Winnipeg Jets , for which he scored 13 points scorer in 32 games. At the same time, he ran for their farm team , the Moncton Hawks , in four games in the American Hockey League . Following this season, the American ended his career at the age of 31. In 2007 he was honored with induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame .
International
For the USA , breads took part in the junior division of the 1979 World Junior Championship . At senior level, he was his country at the World Championships in the squad in 1981 , 1982 , 1985 , 1986 and 1987 as well as 1984 and 1987 at the Canada Cup .

family
His brothers Neal and Paul were also professional ice hockey players and both played in the NHL as well. In addition, his nephew Shane Gersich made it into the highest league in North America.
