Adam Fox (born February 17, 1998 in Jericho , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League since May 2019 and plays for them on the position of defender .
Career
youth
Adam Fox was born in Jericho on Long Island and played for the Long Island Gulls in his youth . For the 2014/15 season he moved to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), the central talent factory of the US hockey association USA Hockey . In the following two years, the defender took part with the selections of the NTDP in the game operations of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and also played a number of national and international games. He was subsequently selected by the Calgary Flames in 66th position in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . However, he initially continued his career in college , so he moved to Harvard University for the 2016/17 season . With the Crimson , the American ran from then on in ECAC Hockey , a league of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and celebrated winning the ECAC championship with the team in his first season. In addition, as a freshman , he recorded a point average of over 1.0 per game, so that he was appointed to the First All-Star Team and the All-Rookie Team and was named Rookie of the Year at the ECAC. The defender confirmed these achievements in the following year, so that he was again considered in the First All-Star Team . He succeeded in doing this in his third and final season at Harvard, when he once again increased his personal statistics significantly to 48 points from 33 games. In addition, Fox was named ECAC Player of the Year and was nominated alongside Cale Makar and Jimmy Schuldt as one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award , which honors the best college player in the country. This title was subsequently awarded to Cale Makar.
NHL
The player rights to Fox were changed for the first time in June 2018 when the Calgary Flames handed him over to the Carolina Hurricanes along with Dougie Hamilton and Micheal Ferland . In return, the Flames received Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm . The Hurricanes in turn transferred the rights to him in April 2019 to the New York Rangers , who sent a second-round vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional third-round vote in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft to Carolina. The third-round suffrage should become one for the second round, provided Fox plays at least 30 games for the Rangers in the 2019/20 season. A little later in May 2019, this provided the defender with an entry contract , before he earned a place in the Broadway Blueshirts squad in the subsequent pre- season and thus made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) at the beginning of October 2019 . He finished his first NHL season with 42 scorer points from 70 games.
International
Fox gained his first international experience as part of the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2014 in November , where he won the silver medal with the U17 selection of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. The following year he took part with the team at the U18 World Cup in 2016 , where he won the bronze medal, while he was personally named the best defensive player and voted into the tournament's all-star team. He then became junior world champion with the US U20 national team in 2017 and followed up with another bronze medal in 2018 . Finally, Fox made his debut for Team USA at the 2019 Men's World Championship , but only finished seventh there with the selection.
