Air Comet , originally Air Plus Comet , was a Spanish scheduled and charter airline based in Madrid and a subsidiary of Grupo Marsans . On December 22nd, 2009 she stopped flight operations due to financial problems.
history
Air Comet Plus was founded in 1996 and began flight operations in 1997. In the first few years the airline only operated charter flights and implemented sub- charter services for numerous well-known airlines such as Air France , Egypt Air , Qantas Airways and Hapag-Lloyd Flug . In 2007 the airline was renamed Air Comet and took over the flight destinations and 52% of the employees of the insolvent Air Madrid .
In addition to the Viajes Marsans tourist group, the President of the Spanish employers' association Gerardo Díaz Ferrán was also involved in the Air Comet company.
On October 11, 2007, Grupo Marsans announced a letter of intent to purchase 61 aircraft from Airbus (ten A350-900s , four A380-800s , five A330-200s and 42 Airbus A320 family aircraft ), how many of them for Air Comet is unknown. The Spanish airline was on an expansion course and wanted to fly to new destinations shortly. From August 2008 the first new A330-200 aircraft were added to the fleet. The fleet renewal should be completed by the end of 2009.
From 2009 Air Comet ran into financial problems. For example, there were flight cancellations and from April 2009 employees received their pay either late or not at all. On December 22, 2009, the airline was finally grounded with immediate effect because a loan could no longer be paid off and a court therefore ordered the seizure of all aircraft. The company sought insolvency proceedings , and the workforce was subsequently laid off. In the meantime, the Spanish Ministry of Transport had also withdrawn the company's flight license.
Destinations
Air Comet only flew to destinations in South and Central America, including the Caribbean, in scheduled service. Destinations included Buenos Aires and Bogotá . A line destination in Europe did not recently exist. The charter flight also served other destinations on other continents.
Air Comet also worked with other companies such as Air Europa , Aerosur , Aerolineas Argentinas , AeroRepública , Air One , El Al and Spanair .

As of August 2009, the Air Comet fleet consisted of eight aircraft:
- Orders
Air Comet's fleet was completely renewed during 2008 and 2009. In addition, the fleet size should be expanded from 12 aircraft to 20 aircraft in 2010. The aim was to create a long-haul fleet with the type Airbus A330-200 . In August 2008 the first new A330-200 was integrated into the fleet, in November and December 2008 the second and third of a planned 17.
