House of Nationalities

The House of Nationalities and Nationality House ( Burmese အမျိုးသားလွှတ်တော် Amyotha Hluttaw , ʔəmjóðá l̥ʊʔtɔ ) is the upper house of the Assembly of the Union , the bicameral parliament of Burma ( Myanmar ).

The House of Nationalities consists of 224 members, 168 of whom are directly elected and 56 are appointed by the Armed Forces of Burma . The last elections for the House of Nationalities were held in November 2010 . At their first meeting on January 31, 2011, Khin Aung Myint was appointed by the Solidarity and Development Party of the Union (SEPU) as speaker of the House of Nationalities and chairman of the Union Assembly , the entire parliament of Burma. His deputy as President of the Nationality House was Mya Nyein , also from the SEPU.

The other chamber next to the House of Nationalities is the House of Representatives .
