The Tibetan Golog Autonomous District ( Chinese  果洛 藏族 自治州 , Pinyin Guǒluò Zàngzú zìzhìzhōu ) is located in the southeast of the Chinese province of Qinghai and is part of the Tibetan cultural region of Amdo . Its administrative seat is the Dawo municipality in Maqên County . Golog has an area of ​​76,312 km², which can be used almost exclusively by nomads.

In Golog, several monasteries of the Jonang School (a separate school within Tibetan Buddhism ) have survived and, according to local Tibetans, Golog is the place of origin of the hero king, King Gesar . As his patron deity, the mountain god Make Pomra, who has his residence in the holy mountain Amnye Make (Chinese: Animaqing Shan).
