The Köln-Buchforst stop is located in the Buchforst district of Cologne . It is a stop of the Cologne S-Bahn or S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr on the nine-kilometer long Cologne S-Bahn main line between the Cologne-Mülheim station and Cologne-Nippes . The station is served by lines S 6 and S 11.

location

The station is a classic stopping point and is located in the north of Cologne-Buchforst , directly on the border with Mülheim . Almost one kilometer southwest of the Cologne-Mülheim train station, the station is used to connect the densely populated Cologne district to the network of the Cologne S-Bahn or Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn .

Access to the station is on Bertoldistraße, directly under the railway underpass. Stairs on both sides of the street lead to the central platform . According to the S-Bahn standard, the central platform is 96 cm high and therefore suitable for barrier-free access to the trains. An elevator supports this access from the street.

The station has the usual facilities (seating, ticket machine) of modern S-Bahn stations. Almost half of the platform is covered by a platform roof. There is a special feature at each end of the platform. Since the two ends of the platform are on a curve, the train handling is supported by video monitors. Video cameras observe the areas of the platform edges. The driver can observe the door areas via three monitors each and thus dispatch the train.

The main purpose of the station is to develop Buchforst with the main train station . Buchforst was already connected to the city center by the city railway, but it was only the S-Bahn connection that made a direct connection to the main station possible. The local distribution function of the station is also supported by a bus connection. The bus stop is located directly at the stairs.

history

The S-Bahn stop is quite young. The station was only built with the construction of the Cologne S-Bahn main line from Mülheim to Nippes. For this purpose, the southern freight train route ( Cologne-Kalk Nord / Mülheim-Cologne-Deutzerfeld) had to be relocated and reduced by one track. The station itself was built on the former track of the Cologne-Mülheim- Cologne-Deutz (deep) line , which had been idle since the Second World War . Construction of the station began in 1986; it could be put into operation for the S 11 line for the 1990 summer timetable. In the summer of 1991, the main line was fully commissioned with the extension to Düsseldorf , and since then the S 6 line has also stopped in Cologne-Buchforst.
