history

After the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was founded in 1945, there were initially no traditional ministries, but departments subordinate to the president or vice-president. The Department of Culture and National Education was initially responsible for education , from which the Ministry of National Education emerged in 1946 . This existed until the state was dissolved in 1952.

When Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was re-established in 1990, the Ministry of Education was re-established as the Ministry of Culture . It has had its current name since 1998.

The Ministry is located together with the Ministry for Social Affairs, Integration and Equal Opportunities in the Schwerin Marstall at Werderstraße 124. While the latter is in the south wing of the classical plastered building, which was built from 1838 to 1842, the Ministry for Education, Science and Culture is housed in the north wing .

organization

The ministry is divided into five departments:

  • Department 1: General Department
  • Department 2: Educational Planning and School Development
  • Department 3: Science and Research, Universities
  • Department 4: Culture
  • Department 5: School supervision ( state school board at the top) and vocational training

The departments are divided into unit groups and units - as the smallest organizational unit.
