Biljal Valerjewitsch Machow ( Russian Билял Валерьевич Махов , English transcription Bilyal Makhov ; born September 20, 1987 in Nalchik , Soviet Union ) is a Russian wrestler . He became world champion in free style in 2007, 2009 and 2010. The 1.96 m tall macho wrestles in free style and, since 2014, in the Greco-Roman style in heavyweight .
Career
Biljal Machow, born in Kabardino-Balkaria and living in Dagestan since his youth , began wrestling in 2000. Your talent quickly became apparent. In the junior division he competed in both the classic and the free style, with the seniors initially only in the free style, but since 2014 also in the Greco-Roman style. After his first successes in the junior sector, he became a member of Dinamo Chassavyurt . There he was and is trained by Chankala Gadschimagomedow and Magomed Gusseinow.
In 2005 Biljal Machow started at the Junior World Championships in Vilnius , where he became world champion after victories over Rokas Balinskas from Lithuania, Arjan Bhullar from Canada, Maxim Michailowitsch from Belarus and Batschana Karanadze from Georgia. At the tournament in the Greco-Roman style he lost his first fight against the Swede Jalmar Sjöberg , but then defeated Laszlo Dömötör from Hungary, Sergei Pawlow from the Ukraine and Brandan Rupp from the United States and won a bronze medal.
In 2006 he was able to defend his junior world title in freestyle. In the final of the World Cup tournament in Guatemala City , he defeated Mohammad Azar Shakib Seyed from Iran.
In 2007 Biljal Machow started in Baku for the first time at a senior world championship. After defeating Vincenzo Lipari from Italy 10-0 at the beginning , he also won the duels against the experienced Wadym Tassoew from Ukraine, the Koreans Go Soung-Jin and Fatih Çakıroğlu from Turkey. In the final he faced Cuban Alexis Rodríguez Valera from Havana , vice world champion in 2002 and 2005. After four minutes of fighting, Machow had defeated Rodriguez 2-0 rounds (10-0 technical points) and was one of the youngest heavyweight world champions in wrestling history at the age of 20.
In the 2008 Olympic year, Biljal Machow took 3rd place at the international Iwan-Jarygin memorial tournament in Krasnoyarsk, which is important for Russian wrestlers, behind Bakhtiyar Akhmedov and ex-world champion Kuramagomed Kuramagomedov , and also in the Russian championship he came in behind Akhmedov and Aljaksandr Schamarau only took 3rd place. In the following years he was also injured so that he could no longer qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing . Akhmedov started there, winning the silver medal behind Artur Taymazov , an athlete from North Ossetia-Alania who wrestled for Uzbekistan .
2009 defeated Biljal Machow, recovered from his injury, at the Russian championship Bakhtiyar Akhmedov and was therefore used at the world championship in Herning / Denmark . In Herning Machow won his second world title in a superior style. What was remarkable was the superiority that the 1.96 meter tall athlete displayed. Only his first opponent, the Greek Ioannis Arzoumanidis , went with him over the regular fighting time of four minutes and lost with only 0: 4 technical points. Biljal Machow took 12 technical points from the Spaniard Jose Cuba Vasquez in 51 seconds of fighting time, which ended the fight. In 2012, Biljal Machow managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in London. He started there in the free style in the heavyweight division. In London he won over Jamaladdin Magomedow from Azerbaijan, Taha Akgül from Turkey and Chuluunbat Jargalsaichan from Mongolia. In the semifinals he was somewhat surprisingly defeated by Dawit Modsmanashvili from Georgia. Since this reached the final, he was able to continue wrestling in the consolation round and secured a bronze medal with a victory over Daulet Schabanbay from Kazakhstan.
In 2019, during follow-up checks on the doping samples from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, it was found that the 2012 heavyweight Olympic champion Artur Taymazov and the silver medalist at these games Dawit Modsmanashvili had been doped. Both wrestlers were subsequently disqualified by the IOC. Taymazov was stripped of the gold medals from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, Modsmanashvili, who tellingly had moved to Uzbekistan, the European title of 2008 and the silver medal of 2012. In 2013, Biljal Machow took a break. In September 2014 he competed in the Greco-Roman style at the World Championships in Tashkent. He convinced in Tashkent in this style and won the heavyweight division over Arata Sonoda, Japan, Iakob Kadschaia, Georgia and Johan Eurén from Sweden. In the semifinals he lost to Mijaín López from Cuba, but secured a bronze medal in the consolation round with a victory over Eduard Popp from Germany.
Biljal Machow also represented the Russian colors in the heavyweight division at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas, but this time even in both styles. At first he wrestled in the Greco-Roman style and lost in his first fight against Mijaín López. Since this reached the final, he was able to continue in the consolation round and won a bronze medal with wins over Mindaugas Mizgaitis from Lithuania, Heiki Nabi from Estonia and Robert Smith from the United States. In free style, Biljal Machow won over Rares Daniel Chintojan from Romania, Luis Felipe Vivenes Urbanesa, Venezuela and Parviz Khodavirdi Hadj Basmany from Iran. In the semifinals he lost to Taha Akgül , but secured a bronze medal in this style with a victory over Levan Berianidze from Armenia.
Biljal Machow continued his career afterwards and started in 2016 at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in free style. But there he lost his first fight against Alen Saseev from Ukraine in the weight class up to 125 kg . Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 13th place.
He was then no longer at the start in other international championships.
