history

Bollion is derived from the word bolyon , which in patois means something like container or vessel. Bollion was part of the feudal lordship of Lully. The area belonged with the villages of Font, Châbles and Châtillon to the grande commune of Font. It was not until the beginning of the 19th century that the municipality's territory was determined. A fire ravaged the village in 1854.

As part of the community mergers funded by the canton of Friborg since 2000, a merger project was developed with the aim of uniting Bollion and Seiry with Lully (FR) . At the community meetings on April 22, 2005, the merger was approved by the voters of all three communities, in Bollion the share of votes was 66%. The merger was completed with effect from January 1, 2006.
