The village extends on a ledge on the south-sloping slope of the ridge between Lake Neuchâtel and the Broye plain , in the northwestern Freiburg Central Plateau . Les Friques is closely related to the municipality of Villars-le-Grand in the canton of Vaud . traffic

The place is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is located above the main road from Avenches to Cudrefin . The next connection to the A1 motorway (Lausanne – Bern), which opened in 1997, is around 4 km from the town center. Les Friques itself has no connection to the public transport network. The next stop on the bus line that runs from Avenches to Cudrefin is in neighboring Villars-le-Grand .

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1429 under the name Villard en Vully devers le vent ; In 1584 the name Villars des Friques appeared . The place name is derived from the old French word frique (happy, funny).

Les Friques, originally a fiefdom of the lords of Grandcour, came under the rule of Saint-Aubin in 1444. After Bern had conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Bailiwick of Saint-Aubin. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Les Friques belonged to the Avenches district during the Helvetic Republic, to the Montagny district from 1803 and to the Dompierre district from 1830, before being incorporated into the Broye district in 1848. With effect from January 1, 1991, Les Friques was incorporated into Saint-Aubin .
